Discovery Process
We at High Plains Advisors take a consultative and comprehensive approach to the management of your assets. We call it the discovery process. It is prudent to create a formal investment plan as we work together to achieve your goals. However, this plan is ever evolving as your life circumstances change. As such, our discovery process is ongoing to ensure that we are able to advise you throughout each stage of your life.
So what are the steps?
Step One: Discovery.
The investment planning process begins during the Discovery Meeting. During this meeting we simply listen to you. We need to know about your goals, values, relationships and interests.
Step Two: The Investment Plan.
Based upon your unique goals and objectives we create an investment plan specifically for you. This plan takes into consideration your willingness, ability and need to take risk, as well as your individual investment horizon. Three key investment principles we stress are the efficiency of capital markets according to the tenets of Modern Portfolio Theory, the importance of diversification and the discipline of remaining invested.
Step Three: Portfolio Construction.
Building on the first two steps, we construct a diversified portfolio suited to your risk profile and specific investment objectives. We typically use institutional mutual funds and ETF's engineered to capture returns from the market dimensions that we believe are appropriate for you.
Step Four: Ongoing Management.
We add periodic rebalancing to restore your original allocations when market activity causes them to move out of balance. In addition, we continue our discovery process with regular meetings that will enable us to advise you along the ever changing landscape of your financial and personal life.
Step Five: Financial Planning.
Finally, as a complement to our investment advice, we also provide financial planning services in areas such as: retirement planning, tax mitigation and planning, education planning, charitable giving strategies, and social security planning.
